Congratulations to all UPSC toppers!!!

  A total of 829 candidates have qualified for civil services, including IAS and IPS, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced on Tuesday. Pradeep Singh, Jatin Kishore and Pratibha Verma secured the first, second and third positions respectively, the Commission said without sharing further details of the toppers. GSLV Mk III launched successfully

The first experimental flight (GSLV Mk-III X/CARE) of India’s next generation launch vehicle GSLV Mk-III was successfully conducted on (December 18, 2014) morning from Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota. Also known as LVM3-X/CARE, this suborbital experimental mission was intended to test the vehicle performance during the critical atmospheric phase of its flight and thus carried a passive (non-functional) cryogenic upper stage. The mission began with the launch of GSLV Mk-III at 9:30 am IST from the Second Launch Pad as scheduled and about five and a half minutes later, carried its payload – the 3775 kg Crew Module Atmospheric Re-entry Experiment (CARE) – to the intended height of 126 km. Following this, CARE separated from the upper stage of GSLV Mk-III and re-entered the atmosphere and safely landed over Bay of Bengal with the help of its parachutes about 20 minutes 43 seconds after lift-off. Swachh Bharat Programme for Urban Areas

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today gave its approval for a massive program called "Swachh Bharat Mission for Urban Areas". This is proposed to be implemented over 5 years starting from 2 nd October, 2014 in all 4041 statutory towns. The total expected cost of the programme over 5 years is Rs. 62,009 crore, out of which the proposed Central assistance will be of  Rs. 14,623 crore.   The programme includes elimination of open defecation, conversion of insanitary toilets to pour flush toilets, eradication of manual scavenging, Municipal Solid Waste Management, bringing about a behavioural change in people regarding healthy sanitation practices, generating awareness among citizens about sanitation and its linkages with public health, strengthening of urban local bodies to design, execute and operate systems to fulfil these objectives and creating an enabling environment for private sector participation in capit...

Elections!!

The 16th lok sabha elections in India took place recently where Bhartiya Janata Party appeared the single majority winner and Narendra Modi as PM designate. The elections took place in 9 phases and lot of electoral reforms like NOTA, VVPAT, SVEEP were added. With major women voters and first time voters this elections were remarkable. With telangana and seema andhra the loksabha elections had 29 states and 7 UTs. This is the first time in history that there is no Leader of Opposition as no party could get 10 % of 543 seats after BJP. Narendra Modi would be swearing on 26th May and he invited all SAARC members to be present for swearing in ceremony.

China Russia gas deal

China and Russia signed a massive 400$ billion deal in natural gas which was being negotiated from last one decade. Finally it happened Russia would be delivering natural gas to China.

Successful Trials of Akash Surface to Air Missile System

Akash the indigenously designed developed and produced Surface to Air missile for the Indian Army was once again successfully flight tested  at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur. These were part of a series of trials being conducted in various engagement modes from the first of Production Model system being produced to equip two regiments of Indian Army. Both,  flight destroying a target in receding ting mode, as well as the  destroying an approaching target, fully met the mission objectives and few more trials are planned in different engagement modes. -PIB

ADB loans for Agribusiness in India

Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India have signed a $67.6 million loan that will help improve physical and institutional links to support agriculture in the state of Bihar. The loan will help expand agricultural value chains and facilitate better linkages for small scale farmers with processors, agribusiness entrepreneurs, and service providers in Muzaffarpur and Patna-Nalanda regions of Bihar. The loan is the first tranche of a $170 million multitranche financing facility under the Agribusiness Infrastructure Development Investment Program, which was approved by the ADB Board in September, 2010 to boost private sector investment in agribusiness infrastructure in selected regions of Bihar and Maharashtra.

India and Mozambique Relations

Indo-Mozambican relations have been traditionally warm and friendly. India and Mauritius Economic Relations

Realising that time had come to diversify commercial exchanges and exploit the full potential of trade and economic partnership, India and Mauritius have decided to fast-track the negotiations for sealing a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA). The Joint Working Group of India and Mauritius would be meeting on July 23 in New Delhi to explore co-operation in textiles, clothing industry, technology transfer and fashion industry. This decision was taken at a meeting between the Commerce and Industry Minister, Anand Sharma, and Mauritius Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Arvin Bolle, during the bilateral talks here on Friday. Both sides felt that it was time to put the PTA negotiations on fast-track as this would lead to enhanced trade and result in both sides reducing duties on a certain category of products. JIMEX 12

The first Bi-lateral maritime exercise between India and Japan 'JIMEX 12' (Japan India Maritime Exercise) from 09 June, off Tokyo. Units of the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) participating are twodestroyers; one maritime patrol aircraft and a helicopter. Indian Naval units participating are INS Rana, INS Shivalik, INS Karmukh and INS Shakti. The four ships entered Tokyo on 05 Jun 12 after visiting Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines and Republic of Korea enroute. The three day stay in Tokyo coincides with commemoration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and Japan.

White Label ATMs

In a bid to accelerate the growth and wider spread of ATMs, the Reserve Bank today issued draft guidelines for permitting non-banking entities to set up, own and operate such money dispensing machines. Non-bank entities proposing to set up such service will have to have a minimum net worth of Rs 100 crore,  it has been decided to permit non-banks to set up, own and operate ATMs to accelerate the growth and penetration of ATMs in the country. Such ATMs will be in the nature of White Label ATMs (WLA) and would provide ATM services to customers of all banks

Ultra light howitzers

The Defence Ministry cleared a Rs 3000 crore deal to buy 145 M777 ultra light howitzers from the USA defence manufacturer BAE Systems. The M777 artillery guns are essentially used in the mountains. These guns are air transportable and are currently used in Afghanistan by the US Army where their performance has been commendable. India will procure the M777 howitzers from the US through the Foreign Military Sale programme.
