Indus Valley Civilization

It is one of the oldest civilization of the world, Also known as Harappan Civilization, named after the first site discovered. It is predominantly located in the northwest Indian sub continent covering sites in India and Pakistan.
Harappa and Mohen jo daro and various other sites are located around Indus river.



Mohen jo daro when excavated, it is famous for the structure known as Great bath, which is thought as the Public Bath area.

They were advanced in their architecture with the use of burnt bricks during that time for building houses, roads etc.
Also the windows, doors, and water flows were properly synchronised and planned and is reflected
at all its sites.

Various sculptures, seals, pottery, gold jewellery, and anatomically detailed figurines in terracotta, bronze, and steatite have been found at excavation sites.



They also had their own script which is still undeciphered, and is boustrophedon.
They use to worship mother Goddess and phallic worship also veneration of animals and plants.

The decline of indus valley civilization is still not clear but it was definitely very advanced civilization of its time.

A question or two can be expected on this topic in prelims or mains, In ancient india it is an important topic to be covered
