Atlantic Ocean Currents

Labrador Current : It is a Cold Current,It meets the warm Gulf Stream at the Grand Banks southeast of Newfoundland and again north of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The combination of these two currents produces heavy fogs and also one of the richest fishing grounds in the world.

Falkland Current : It is a Cold Current flowing north along the Atlantic coast of Patagonia.

Canary Current is a wind-driven surface  current. This eastern boundary current branches south from the North Atlantic Current and flows southwest about as far as Senegal where it turns west and later joins the Atlantic North Equatorial Current.A prominent feature of Eastern Boundary Currents is the presence of upwelling. Ekman drift causes offshore transport of surface waters, which are then replaced with deep water from below. Deep waters are cold and Nutrient-rich and have a key role in stimulating Primary productivity. Upwelling has led to the enhancement of coastal fisheries in western Morocco.

West Spitsbergen Current (WSC) is a warm, salty current that runs poleward just west of Spitsbergen, (formerly called West Spitsbergen), in the Arctic Ocean. The WSC branches off the Norwegian Atlantic Current in the Norwegian Sea. The WSC is of importance because it drives warm and salty Atlantic Water into the interior Arctic. The warm and salty WSC flows north through the eastern side of Fram Strait, while the East Greenland Current (EGC) flows south through the western side of Fram Strait. The EGC is characterized by being very cold and low in salinity, but above all else it is a major exporter of Arctic sea ice. Thus, the EGC combined with the warm WSC in the Fram Strait makes the Fram Strait the northernmost ocean area having ice-free conditions throughout the year in all of the global ocean.

East Greenland Current (EGC) is a cold, low salinity current that extends from Fram Strait to Cape Farewell. The current is located off the eastern coast of Greenland along the Greenland continental margin. The current cuts through the Nordic Seas (Greenland Sea, Norwegian Sea and Icelandic Sea) and through the Denmark Strait. The current is of major importance because it directly connects the Arctic to the Northern Atlantic, it is a major contributor to sea ice export out of the Arctic, and it is a major freshwater sink for the Arctic.

Antilles Current is a warm water current that flows northwesterly past the island chain that separates the Carribean sea and Atlantic ocean.

Carribean Current is a warm water current flows through Carribean sea from the east along the coast of South America

Benguela current is a cold water current ,it is helpful in sustaining Benguela Ecosystem by causing coastal upwelling and high growth of phytoplanktons.

Florida Current is a warm ocean current that flows from Gulf of Mexico to Atlantic Ocean.

North Atlantic Current is a strong warm ocean current

Guinea Current is a warm ocean current flowing east along the guinea coast of west Africa

Brazil Current is a warm water current.
