After clearing the hurdle of Prelims, the first stage, it is the MAINS examination which is like mammoth given the weightage of 1750 marks
It consists of
Two qualifying language papers
1 English
2 Any one language from the 22 languages mentioned in eighth schedule
One Essay paper 250 marks
4 GS papers each consisting of 250 marks
2 papers of optional subject each of 250 marks
Total 1750 marks
To score in Essay paper
It is one of the scoring areas of mains and around 150 can be easily scored in this paper with proper
practice.
Regular reading of The Hindu, Kurukshetra, Yojana magazine give enough writing material and good understanding of the topics
Frequent areas for Essay are Women and Child Development, Urbanization, India and its neighbours, Climate Change, Leaders and their Sayings.
The essay is to be written in around 1500 words or two essays of 700 to 800 words
Making use of relevant quotes also makes essay effective.
Simple language and in depth knowledge of topic helps to score more than 70%
Scoring in GS papers is all about having a thorough understanding of the topics given in the syllabus
